Managing the Family Calendar
With “over-scheduling” becoming a big hot button for today’s families, keeping obligations, activities and meetings straight can be a real headache — unless you’re organized. Try this tip, which comes from Margie, a mom in Gladwynne, PA.
“I bought the biggest write-on, wipe-off white board calendar I could find. Each family member gets their own assigned [...]
How a Hot Potato Can Help
This Mom to Mom tip comes from a nurse in the San Francisco Bay area.
“If chronic ear infections are a problem for your child, it’s important to seek out the proper medical care and/or treat them with antibiotics. However, to relieve some of the pain and pressure immediately, here’s a simple home remedy. Just heat [...]
Important Kids’ Water Safety Info
If your child fell into the water, would he or she know what to do? Would you?
The Baby Otter Swim School in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, was founded to help ensure that your answer is “yes.”

Change Can Be Good!
This Mom to Mom tip is a “Million Dollar Secret” from my most recent book, Secrets of Millionaire Moms. It comes from Jeanne Bice, founder of The Quacker Factory, a highly successful clothing business with more than $50 million in annual sales. We think this advice, which explains the importance of changing direction when necessary, [...]
The Lowdown on Energy
Around much of the U.S., especially in the summer, electricity can be in short supply. But small changes can make a big impact on how much energy we use (and how much we pay for our monthly utility bills). That’s why this month’s Mom to Mom tip comes from us at Mom Inventors (with help [...]

Homemade Cookies in Half the Time
Whenever we bake cookies, we measure out extra white sugar and brown sugar, and place these together in a Ziploc bag. We then do the same with the flour, baking soda and salt. The next time we bake, all we need to do is dump the bags — no need to get out all the ingredients or measuring cups again! It’s quick and easy but saves so much time.
Organizing Your Home Office
Has your home office paper trail grown weedy and unruly? One easy way to tackle that overgrown paper jungle is to break up the task rather than doing it all at once. Go through 10 file folders each day, and get rid of anything that’s outdated or no longer useful. Note: To be safe, keep [...]
Connecting With Your Kids
I wanted to share my favorite Mom to Mom tip I use all year long, but especially during the holidays:
“It’s ironic that the hustle and bustle of the holidays can cause us to lose focus on the things we treasure most during this season: our families. Here’s something you can do each day to connect [...]
Encouraging Kids to Cooperate
When schedules are tight and kids aren’t cooperative, life quickly gets stressful. Here’s a solution to encourage younger kids to help clean up, brush their teeth, play nicely together — even eat their vegetables! Just get a blank book or notebook and a package of their favorite stickers. Every time they accomplish a given task (whatever it is they’re reluctant to do) paste a sticker “reward” in the book. Then, when they reach 50 or 100 stickers, give them a larger reward like a trip to the zoo or another favorite place. This way, they get the immediate gratification of earning a sticker in their own special book, plus they have something to work toward — special time with mom. It works!
