Wow, your post makes mine look felbee. More power to you!
I saw you all on television the other day. My question is, is there going to be another statewide search like the one last year. My daughters and I have a few ideals for some products for babies, toddlers, and such but we missed the deadline for last year and we want to ready for, this year. I loved the idea momsinvented.
Hi, Tamara! I'm wondering where on the website I can go to get questions answered about existing patents. I have a wonderful idea for an invention, but there is an existing patent. The thing I'm curious about is the patent was filed in 1993, accepted in 1994, and further down in the page, it says, "This application is a continuation of application Ser. No. ..... dated Dec. 20, 1991 now abandoned."
Where can I find out if I can move forward with my idea? Can I file a nearly identical patent now that this one is > 17 years old? (I'm reading the "Mom Inventor's Handbook").
Thanks!
Youre on top of the game. Thanks for srahing.
Amber -- the USPTO has a support number, 1-800-786-9199, to answer such questions. They are very knowledgable and should be able to help you out. You can also go to uspto.gov, click on contact us at the top right of the page and drill down to a list of more specific phone numbers to call for advice. Good luck. ~ Tice Swackhamer
Tamara--
I'd like to suggest all your readers check out United Inventors Association Website ( UIAUSA.org) A not for profit organization that has TREMENDOUSLY helped many inventors including myself.
Invaluable information for people that have just an idea all the way to choosing a reputable patent attorney to companies of integrity to market your product.
My invention is prototyped and passed focus group with flying colors. I have an interested party who likes my product and hopefully....I'm on my way!
P.S. Can't wait to get my hands on your book!
Hi girls. Just found you this morning. Questions: I had a preliminary patent on an invention, but just couldn't get realistic help in getting it off the ground. It seems lots of people wanted to "help" (for a fee) and I just got bogged down. After you have exceeded your 1 year on a preliminary patent are there other options for securing your idea? Could some ideas be taken to market without a patent?
Thanks for your time.

Hi Cristi,
Thanks for your message. Yes, you can bring a product to market without a patent as long as you are not infringing on another person or company's patent.
In the Mom Inventors Handbook I talk about doing your market research FIRST before you spend a penny on patenting. You need to find out if people are actually going to purchase your item and how many you will need to sell in order to create a viable business. There are many steps in this process and patenting is not the first thing you need to do.
You may be able to get a copy in your local library if you would prefer not to purchase it.
Warmest regards,
Tamara
Hello Tamara,
First, I want to say that I absolutely love your book, THE MOM INVENTOR'S HANDBOOK! I have learned so much, and I am using that knowledge to move fast-forward towards my goals.
I have a question. Can I copy/paste one of the NDA's 'sample' document's, that you have uploaded on your site? I'd like to copy & use it, without having to re-type the entire form - if I may . . .? Thank you!
Congratulations on your success thus far, and thank you for sharing your knowledge . . .
you are truly an inspiration!
Jen
PS I was unaware that you had written more book's on this subject matter (until this site) I will be looking forward to checking them out as well. : )

Hello, can anyone give me a tip or know of a cosmetic chemist for formulating custom skin products. I am
at a roadblock. I am not looking for a private label company who stocks formulas and simply places your
name on the label. Any help would be appreciated.
Hi Tamara, I was wondering if you plan on having any competitions in California /Bay Area in the future?
Are there any competitions or Women Support Groups you know of in Memphis,Tennessee? Also do you hold competions here in the South like you do in Arizona
