Lisa Smith designed and created the amazing PEEL & PLAY Interactive Wall Play Set that allows your kids to decorate their walls without ruining the paint!

Watch this great video:

Mom Invented:  What inspired you to create your product?

Lisa:  My daughter is a very 'hands-on' learner and I was interested in putting an interactive mural in her playroom. I searched high and low and could not find what I was looking for. After researching all different types of materials, we found one that would work with our printing process and we decided to make interactive art ourselves to fill that niche. We feel like art should not just be seen, but also experienced and PEEL & PLAY gives children that opportunity.

What's the biggest mistake you've experienced in this process? How did you overcome it?

Lisa:  The biggest mistake was taking our time releasing this product. I think we should have gone at it faster and had more designs at the start. We were hesitant to reveal everything we had planned for this product because we didn't want others to catch on and beat us

to the punch. We have realized that now, you just have to go for it and know that your quality and customer service will keep people coming back.

Mom Invented: What has been your greatest success in this process?

Lisa: Our greatest success has been that customers are interacting with us and making suggestions for new designs and ideas. This is not a product that people buy and we never hear from them again. Most are really excited and supportive and are waiting on us to get the ball rolling with new designs we are creating in our little workshop!

Jill Naughton-Capone created The Ice Pack Sack.  My active daughters are frequently in need of an immediate ice pack or heating pad. What I love about this product is that it can be used for both. Check it out...

Mom Invented: Describe your product.

Jill:  The Ice Pack Sack is a hot/cold gel pack with a soft fabric covering. The unique design is made with appealing fabrics and serves a need to transmit heat or cold therapy to the desired area with a protective, comfortable feel to the skin. Placing the Ice Pack Sack in your freezer makes it convenient to always have an icepack available without fumbling for ice cubes and bags or a bag of peas.

Mom Invented: What inspired you to create your product?

Jill:  I started experimenting with remnants of fabric and began to make them for friends and family. Everyone loved them and they fulfilled a very necessary need. I took my gel packs to a local pharmacy and they bought them and within a few weeks they were sold out. So I made more. Thus “The Ice Pack Sack” and Prime Products was born.

Mom Invented: What's the biggest mistake you've experienced in this process? How did you overcome it?

Jill: The whole process has been a learning experience. I guess my biggest mistake is when I fear the unknown.

Mom Invented: What has been your greatest success in this process?

Jill: Taking an idea that was God Given and making it work. Also when I hear how much people like my product.

Romy Taormina: created Psi Bands -- the FDA-cleared acupressure wrist bands for the relief of nausea due to morning sickness, motion sickness, anesthesia, or chemotherapy. These are amazing!  Watch the video and read Romy's interview. I could have used these when I had morning sickness. I tried EVERYTHING!

Mom Invented: Please tell us about your product.

Romy: Psi Bands are unlike any other product on the market, they are stylish (come in several designs), waterproof (no more soggy wrist bands), adjustable around the wrist like a watch (so they fit most wrist sizes) and at the acupressure point for personalized comfort, reusable, and affordable.

Mom Invented: What inspired you to create your product?

Romy:  With both of my pregnancies I suffered with such severe and debilitating morning sickness that it was preventing me from being able to enjoy my life, much less take care of my other child or do my work. No amount of Saltines or ginger tea was able to make a dent in my morning sickness (which really lasted all day!). I finally found relief by using acupressure wrist bands. However, the lack of choices left me with dull gray wristbands that became waterlogged when wet and stretched out over time. So, I invented Psi Bands (pronounced "sigh" bands) -- a product devoted to helping those who suffer from nausea find relief – without giving up on style and comfort.

Mom Invented: What's the biggest mistake you've experienced in this process? How did you overcome it?

Romy:  If I had known that I would have many sleepless nights because I was thinking about business, I might not have “gone for it.” Sometimes not knowing is a good thing.

Mom Invented: What has been your greatest success in this process?

Romy: I define success as doing what you love. For me that means creating and distributing a product that creates a positive difference in the lives of those who suffer from nausea. I am fulfilled knowing that I am challenging myself in a business sense, creating jobs for others, serving as a role model for my children (i.e. you must work hard to achieve your goals) and for other entrepreneurs — especially women entrepreneurs, and to provide financially for my family so that we can live comfortably.

Now, Psi Bands are available at more than 6,000 high-end drug, sporting goods and natural food stores, such as CVS/Pharmacy, Rite Aid, Babies "R" Us, Whole Foods, and REI, among many others. Psi Bands have been featured in the coveted “O List” in O, The Oprah magazine, SELF, Martha Stewart’s Body + Soul, Daily Candy, Fit Pregnancy, Entrepreneur Magazine (as a “strokes of genius”), and many more.

Lori Bredemeier
StoryBook PJ's and Appeteethers. These would make great gifts too. Check them out.

Mom Invented: Please tell us about your product.

Lori:  Storybook PJ's are super snuggly pajamas, that come packaged with a board book to make bedtime fun. The images are printed on high quality 100% cotton fabric in a soft water color style, and go along with the images and storyline in the book to create a fun and interactive bedtime experience. Not only do the kids have something cute and comfortable to wear to bed, but the book (included) helps build their verbal and cognitive skills, as well as getting them interested in books. Reading to children is a rewarding routine that helps build a strong bond between parents and children, and can aid in a better night's sleep for everyone.

Mom Invented: What inspired you to create your product?

Lori: StoryBook PJ's were inspired by a conversation with our pediatrician and the desire to create a bedtime routine. Our Dr. recommended reading to our children right away. An infant is not too young to be read too. We quickly realized how much our kids like to see images of the story outside of the book. E.G. a drawing of the rabbit in the story or a picture of one. So, StoryBook PJ's were born. The images in the book match the images on the PJ's. This builds cognitive skills, makes the bedtime routine more fun and really is a great opportunity to bond with your little one.

Appeteethers were created when our first child was teething. She didn't like any of the teething toys on the market and we noticed they were all the same thing that has been on the market for decades. My Husband and I love humor! We thought, "how funny would it be to see this precious baby teething on something that looked like a chicken wing or a rib?"

Mom Invented: What's the biggest mistake you've experienced in this process? How did you overcome it?

Lori: I suppose underestimating the time it takes to make a name for your brand/product.

The other big thing is being open to feedback; whether it is good or bad. Don't take it personally.

Mom Invented: What has been your greatest success in this process?

Lori: Getting the products in the hands of consumers and hearing how much they love them.

Mom Invented: What are the product details?

Lori:  The PJs are available in sizes 6 months, 12 months, 18 months and 2T and;

• Unisex.
• Zipper Guard to Protect Skin.
• Texture on feet to help prevent slipping.
Appeteethers are fun, safe, patented teethers that are unlike any others on the market. They come in silly shapes including Chompin' Chicken Wing and a Baby-Q Rib, and are non-toxic, BPA-free, PVC-free, lead-free, and phthalate-free. They are made of silicone and have great texturing to help massage sore gums. Kids love chewing away on these, and parents get a kick out of watching them.
• 0+ Months.
• Exceeds Consumer Product Safety Compliance Standards.
• Non-Toxic, BPA-Free, PVC-Free, Lead-Free, Phthalate-Free.
• Hilarious.

Sandy Clark created the San Diego Bebe Eco-Nursing Pillow. It's cozy and stylish.  Another great gift idea! Please take a look...

Mom Invented: Describe your product.

Sandy: San Diego Bebe is a line of eco-friendly nursing pillows available for one baby or a larger version for twins. Our entire line is made with baby-safe Eco*Loft fiber that is hypo-allergenic, non-toxic (NO fire-retardant chemicals added), and is recyclable, odor-free, glue-free, foam,-free, lead-free and Phthalate-free. Our patented "Privacy Cover" is built right into the nursing pillow, providing discretion when needed.

Mom Invented: What inspired you to create your product?

Sandy:  My own breastfeeding experience! When I was told I was pregnant with twins, my first thought was "How will I ever be able to breastfeed?" Based on my own needs for comfort and support, I designed a nursing pillow which allowed me to nurse my twins for 28 months. That was 18 years ago! We've been selling the "EZ-2-Nurse Twins" Nursing pillow ever since. But about three years ago, we began researching alternative materials that would be eco-friendly, hypo-allergenic and non-toxic and incorporated that into our existing design. We also expanded our manufacturing efforts to include a pillow for nursing a single baby. The resulting redesigned product line is now called "San Diego Bebe" (because it was created and launched right here in San Diego, CA.)

Mom Invented: What's the biggest mistake you've experienced in this process? How did you overcome it?

Sandy: Not being ready for the positive response and required expansion. We quickly grew out of our first warehouse faster than we had anticipated. And growth requires capital. And raising capital doesn't happen overnight. Success is wonderful but you have to be ready for it!

Mom Invented: What has been your greatest success in this process?

Sandy: Taking a major leap of faith towards going GREEN. We had to re-design, re-tool, re-invest, and re-vamp pretty much every aspect of our manufacturing process. After investing over two years redesigning the product line to make it eco-friendly, we are proud to be selling products that are free of toxic chemicals. Knowing that our products are being used by fragile babies and eco-conscious mothers, we feel really good about contributing to the healthiest nursing experience possible.

Mom Invented: How can people find you?

Sandy: www.doubleblessings.com and 1-800-584-8946. We also have distributors across the US and Canada, and also in Europe, UK, and Australia.

  1. Hi Tamara,

I submitted an invention for the June 2012 product search and I was wondering if you have selected any products at this time? Also, if my invention was not selected to get licensed by your company, could I possibly get feedback as to why it wasn't?

    Thank You,

    Nancy
