Julia Rhodes created  KleenSlate Dry Erase Response Paddles. These are kid-friendly 2-sided hand-held dry erase response paddles with marker and eraser that stores in the handle. Markers are non-toxic and certified safe. All dry erase surfaces clean with soap and water with a microfiber cleaning cloth (included).

Mom Invented: What inspired you to create these?

Julia: I am a school teacher and I wanted to create a product for the classroom that would enable every child to have a voice. I needed a quick assessment tool that would have everyone raising their hand. This educational tool is engaging, interactive and fun!

Mom Invented: What's the biggest mistake you've experienced in this process? How did you overcome it?

Julia: Having enough money to take it to market was my biggest mistake. I didn't know how expensive the trade show booths were, but that was the only way to get the word out about my products. Being a resourceful teacher, I created dry erase clothing so I could be a walking trade show booth. Everyone wanted to write on me. I learned you have to take some risks, do your homework, find others that believe in you and love what you are doing.

Mom Invented: What has been your greatest success in this process?

Julia: Having my son tell me he wanted to follow in my footsteps as an entrepreneur has been my greatest success. He never wanted to be a teacher, but he was inspired by my journey as an inventor/entrepreneur. Now he works for me, is passionate about the product line and is my biggest fan! He has also gone back to school so he can have the skills he will need to pursue his own dream.

Kathy Martini is passionate about teaching children with food allergies how to identify proper foods to stay healthy and safe. She created a series of educational videos called:
My Peanut Allergy Video with my Safe Food Friends; My Milk Allergy Video with my Safe Food Friends; My Egg Allergy Video with my Safe Food Friends

Mom Invented: Please tell us about your DVD/CD Series.

Kathy: The three DVD/CD combo releases include: My Peanut Allergy Video with my Safe Food Friends™, My Milk Allergy Video with my Safe Food Friends™ and My Egg Allergy Video with my Safe Food Friends™. Recommended for ages 2 through 6, the Safe Food Friends™ will teach food allergic children what the allergic food looks like and where it comes from, give examples of some of the foods that are NOT safe snacks™ and should be avoided, give examples of some of the foods that are safe snacks™, to never share food or snacks, to ask an adult to read the label and other positive learning tools.

“Not eating the allergenic food is currently the safest way to manage food allergy and prevent symptoms” according to the Guidelines for the Diagnosis and Management of Food Allergy in the United States, Summary for Patients, Families and Caregivers.

These newly created and innovative videos teach children how to recognize those foods and avoid them. The Safe Food Friends™ are children that will show food allergic children how to be safe with fun, memorable songs and dancing. This video has a positive, can do it approach so that a child can feel empowered and lower their levels of anxiety about their food allergy.

Mom Invented: What inspired you to create your product?

Kathy: My daughter inspired me to create these videos. When teaching my daughter, who is allergic to peanuts, tree nuts, and eggs, I would sing songs to her to teach her how to stay safe. Young children learn by music and songs! These same songs are in my videos. I knew that they work because they have empowered her to make the right choices and stay safe at school. The education is ongoing with my daughter. Every day I am grateful to God that she continues to be safe. My goal is to help other parents and children to keep their child with food allergies safe.

Mom Invented: What's the biggest mistake you've experienced in this process? How did you overcome it?

Kathy: Starting a business in this economy has been very challenging. I was hopeful for a business loan to get the business started. When that did not happen, I had to reach out to many friends for help. Many of the people who contributed to this project, have donated their time to make it happen. They were behind the good cause and were willing to come forward and donate their skills and time to my business. I am very grateful to all of my friends and family for their support.

Mom Invented: What has been your greatest success in this process?

Kathy: My greatest success has been hearing from parents that the video is helping their child. Children love watching the Safe Food Friends video and singing and dancing along. Making a difference, one child at a time, is very rewarding!

Mary Cattapan, designed and created Clix Magnetic Jewelry.  Watch this great video!

Mary: Clix magnetic interchangeable pendants and bracelets allow the wearer to express their individuality. Clix jewelry has a magnetic base and allows users to rotate different images in and out via use of a metal 1" flat-back button.

What inspired you to create your product? I loved the idea of one jewelry piece that could be used for casual or nicer occasions. It's environmentally-friendly, allows wearers to express themselves and offers endless fashion options.

Mom Invented: What's the biggest mistake you've experienced in this process? How did you overcome it?

Mary: Understanding what went into creating a prototype and how incredibly long that process could take. I overcame it by persistence, belief that the product would do well and continual research into better options.

Mom Invented: What has been your greatest success in this process?

Mary: Getting several companies to resell my product.

Anita Reynolds MacArthur is the award-winning author of two wonderful children's books. A Royal Little Pest (Book #1) and A Royal Little Pest: Mine! (Book #2)

Mom Invented: Please tell us about your books.

Anita: This award-winning series of picture books follows the cheeky antics of Prince Hayden MacCheeky as he learns to share and get along with his siblings. Simply put, Prince Hayden MacCheeky is a royal little pest!

A Royal Little Pest (Book #1): Prince Hayden MacCheeky is a real little prince who learns that playing with his royal siblings is way more fun than imitating and irritating them.

A Royal Little Pest: Mine! (Book #2): Prince Hayden MacCheeky is a real little prince who learns that a little royal sharing leads to a lot of royal fun for everyone.

Mom Invented: What inspired you to write them?

Anita: I worked for 15 years editing other people’s words before deciding to write some words of my own. As a mother of three, I felt it was important to create a series of picture books with colorful characters who were cheeky yet endearing at the same time. The stories needed to engage boys, as well as girls, and appeal to the reluctant reader. I wanted to create books that parents would be interested in reading with their children. The underlying simple life lesson that is woven into each story easily translates to a classroom setting so teachers can use these books as Read-Alouds with their students.

Mom Invented: What's the biggest mistake you've experienced in this process? How did you overcome it?

Anita: My biggest mistake in this process has been underestimating how much time I would have to dedicate to each book. When I first embarked on this journey, I thought the bulk of my time would be spent writing, producing, and publishing my books. But that does not compare to the time spent on promoting the books, visiting schools and libraries, attending book fairs, blogging, as well as maintaining the website and social media outlets.

Mom Invented: What has been your greatest success in this process?

Anita:  My greatest success in this whole process turned out to be a complete surprise! I had no idea that writing these books would lead me into schools and libraries to read my books and discuss the importance of literacy. Meeting young readers and getting them exciting about reading and writing has been the most rewarding and satisfying part of this process for me.

Other successes:

A Royal Little Pest (Book #1) is one of the Top 10 Great Children's Books for 2010, as awarded by the Canadian Toy-Testing Council. This book also recently received an Honorable Mention in Writer's Digest Magazine's 18th Annual Int'l Book Awards (children's category) Mar/Apr 2011 issue--first runner up!

A Royal Little Pest: Mine! (Book #2) was selected by Nelson Education Ltd. as a Read-Aloud for Nelson Literacy Kindergarten's new national program. This book, which has curriculum-based lesson plans specifically created for it, is being used in classrooms across the country. This book also received 5/5 stars, as reviewed by Midwest Book Review (Oregon, WI U.S.A.) - January 2010
